Warcs 'A' versus Bucks 'A' Match Report
Posted by bullet.gif whatafcukinliberty on September 18 2010
Firstly I would like to say that I was pleased that the whole squad got to the venue on time and a good few got there a good hour or so early and started practicing. I?m fairly certain that Warcs bought Herefords tables from last year but when they re-assembled them, left bits out.

An unusually good start from the Bucks saw us take the first session 7-4 with Ken Riddell taking out arguably their best player in Phil Parkin, other wins came from Dan Morgan, Mark and Jamie Mc Gauley, Steve Appleby, Stuart Douglas and Jamie Whittaker.

Second session went the same way, 7-4 to the Bucks with Peter Lee taking his first frame of the day against Phil Parkin. Other wins came from Dan, Mark, Ken, Steve and the 2 Jamie?s. Noise levels and support was very high as it was also for the ?B?s, who had a similar score line at this point. So, 2 sessions at 7-4 left us 14-8 at the halfway stage.

Third session and tragedy struck, we lost the first 4 games, reducing our lead to only 2. Bucks only managed to win 3 games in this session leaving the match in the balance at 16-17 to the Bucks, tense stuff. Our crucial 3 wins came from Mark Mc Gauley, Jamie Whittaker and Terry Davidson. The noise and support levels noticeably dropped as fewer players stayed around the table to support team mates. This is something we definitely need to work on for the future.

Last session and the first four games were shared, wins from Dan Morgan and Neil Goodyer, leaving it 18-19. Tragically we only won 1 out of next four games leaving us one behind at 21-20, our win from Mark Mc Gauley. Some game throughout the day were played out of order as we waited for players to turn up or for seniors to finish so nearing the end Stuart and Terry put us 22-21 up with the last game of the day meaning we could win or draw.
Obviously we would prefer the win for the 5 bonus points for the win and stay on track for potential regional win. Steve Appleby versus R.Pontefract, most would be forgiven for thinking that the win was ours, myself included. I am not going to write a shot by shot description of the whole game as it still fecks me off thinking about it. Let?s just say that Steve had all his balls in the open and father time had an impossible finish, impossible unless you sold your soul to Beelzebub. In one shot, back against the wall, steves opponent rattled his shot, fluked it in opposite corner, whit came off a cushion tapping into Steve?s ball to leave him just off straight on his last ball with just enough angle to drop his ball in leaving the white between 2 of Steve?s balls in the only place where he could pot the black......... #@$*#
So, a draw it was and I can honestly say we were robbed. It?s not a complete disaster, it just means we have to work a little harder for our remaining games but I know we can do it.

Congrats to Mark Mc Gauley for his 4/4 and man of the match and also to Dan and Jamie W for their 3 outta 4?s. A massive well done to Jamie Whittaker as he is now top of the regions rankings and playing some of his best pool ever and looking like he is going to qualify for an England trial.

Well done to the ?B?s who managed a good win, 20-24 and to Mike Chappell for his 4 from 4 and deserved man of the match. I think the difference for them today was more team spirit, more support, more noise and no arguments. No matter how good you think you are, if you cause scenes on match day which take peoples focus away from their games, you end up losing matches. So maybe the loss of some decent players, leaving the job at hand number one priority, was a blessing as you lot have just proved that it?s the team that wins matches and not individuals. Well done David and to the rest of the squad.
Well done also to the Bunny?s with an impressive 30-14 win and to Jen Vant for her POM.

Overall I am really happy with the progress all the teams are making but especially the ?B?s who look like they are finally pulling together as a squad.
