Yarmouth Success
Posted by bullet.gif Koopa on October 11 2010
Wow! what a weekend....

Milton Keynes once again took two teams to Great Yarmouth for the EPA Interleague Knockout Finals.

But for the first time ever both teams won their group stage and proceeded into the knockout phase of the tournament.

MK A won 10-8 and 9-6 to proceed through.

MK C won 10-8 and 9-9 to narrowly proceed after being 9-4 up only needing one from the last five frames, Kerry my final frame specialist doing the job for us :)

MK A then got a very unfortunate draw against Trent Trophies (eventual winners) but did themselves proud by only narrowly losing 10-6

MK C got themselves drawn in a more favourable half of the draw to first meet Halifax.

My team jubilant that we had won the group stage for the very first time (with exception of a couple of players who played for MK A previously) felt that they had nothing to lose, there was a party atmosphere in the air.

We started on just one table as Stan levelled the other and we unfortunately lost the very first game :( Halifax were one of the very loudest teams we had ever encountered and for a second the party was on hold.

Then up stepped Dane "The Great" and he puts us level, second table is now ready and within what seemed like just minutes later we had enjoyed six straight wins before losing only our second frame of the match.

At 6-2 up with Steve "OnTheChair" at the table, it looked like a 6-3 half way score, but somehow his opponent missed a straight black to the corner leaving it close to the middle, Beckster then stepped up with an easy snooker possibility and proceeded to start potting balls *hilarious* after some great long pots and a big over screw on his final red he left himself a fine cut on the black to the middle. With the white ball likely to run wild around the table he decided to play a slow cut on the black, the ball rolled two inches and stopped on the fine edge of the pocket........

Or did it.....

In true Tiger wood fashion the 8 logo on the ball showing to the crowd the ball slowly toppled in the pocket and the crowd went mad.

Dane half cut at this point of the day kept repeating something about men that go to sea and their chests (treasure maybe?)

At 7-2 up we were unstoppable, the opponents with their fancy shirts, non-playing captain, six reserves and official scorer (probably even had a mascot) were quiet as mice by now.

Final score 10-3, result, through to Sunday and in the Money

Needless to say reality stepped up on Sunday morning and we lost 10-5 to some Nuneaton players who were not that hot but took their chances better than us, they proceeded on to the Semi Finals (It could have been us) beating Notts 10-4....

A big thank you to my team for a very enjoyable weekend, looking forward to April already when we go as champions of the league :)

Also well done Mike with your A team, hope you get a better draw in April and thanks for your support.
