Oxfordshire v Buckinghamshire

A trip to Witney. Simple you may think. Most of us have been there a few times now and know the journey. A trip that should be simple and straight forward.

Welcome to the world of the sat nav. And what should of been a simple journey took a rather strange twist when some were directed through a village that had a toll booth! A toll booth? Really? Not any old toll booth though, this one charged a whopping 5p to pass. Brilliant.

The match started with the B team having 2 tables, the A team only starting on 1 whilst the juniors used the other. Must to some in the A team's disgust but personally, I quite liked it.

Both teams started well. Both running into a 6-1 lead. Noise was coming from the B team area, and this time joined in by those in the A team corner as well. Nice.

The first session ended with the B team being 7-4 up and the A team being 9-2 up. As far as starts go, thats up there with the best ones.

The A team seemed to be in no mood to give their hosts any way back. Despite losing the first two frames of session 2 they ran out 8-3 winners of that one. And a 'comfortable' lead of 17-5. A scoreline only normally visible if you were to look at the Bunnies scoresheet. The B team were grinding their opponents down too, running out 6-5 winners of session two and a lead of 13-9.

Now, you may notice the word comfortable in that last paragraph being inside those flying tadpole type things. Reason for that, the A team dont do comfortable. God forbid we might actually finish a game off without something to worry about and kindly giving the Oxfordshire A team hope by allowing them a 9-2 win in session 3. Score now 19-14. By stark contrast, the B team used session 3 to all but finish off their opponents. Running away 8-3 winners to move onto the dreaded 21 and a 21-12 lead.

The B team, in session 4, were still in no kind of charitable mood. When Dan Wilkins won frame 2 of the session, and getting himself a 4/4 for the day, it was all over. The punishment continued for the remainder of the session and a 9-2 session win gave the B team a 30-14 victory.

Continuing on from the A team 'comfortable' stuff mentioned earlier, when Oxfordshire won the first 2 frames of session 4 and reducing the lead to just 3, the A's could of been forgiven for starting to panic. Step forward Mr Davidson and Mr Lee. Steadying the ship and getting the A's to the 21 before shortly afterwards Mr Simpson landed the knockout blow, and giving himself a 4/4 for the day. The frames rattled in for the A's from this point and the match secured 26-18.

By my recollection, that's 3 clean sweeps in the last 4 matches. A record tarnished only by a good Northants team, and even then we were only 3 frames away from whitewashing them as well. We dont normally big ourselves up, but I think we should over this.

Final scores then were :-

Oxfordshire A 18 v 26 Buckinghamshire A
Oxfordshire B 14 v 30 Buckinghamshire B
Oxfordshire Ladies 21 v 23 Bucks Bunnies
Oxfordshire juniors 8 v 8 Bucks Juniors

100% records on the day for John Clavey and Dan Wilkins in the B's and Mark Mcgauley and Arron Simpson in the A's

MOM awards going to John and Mark

In the words of the legend that is Dog. You are having some of that next Wiltshire.

p.s. There's punishment of a wedgy to anybody who mentions the Y word before the season end.
