Bucks 'A' Versus Worcs 'A' ~ match report
Posted by bullet.gif whatafcukinliberty on March 24 2009
Well, where to start... With first 2 frames played from our newcomers Dane and Jimmy going to worcs, it was not the best of starts. It got worse, the next 5 frames went to worcs also putting us 7-0 down. Enter joint captain Liam Harty, who kept his head and won our first game of the day. Tony haggarty then went on and lost to make the shortest comeback ever. Last 2 players of first section went to Stuart Douglas and Steve Appleby, each winning their respective frames to make it 3-8 to worcs. Not a great start.

Onto the 2nd section, Dane tuttlebee, with a fine clearance to crack his 'A' team duck putting the pressure on young Jimmy jams to win his first, sadly he fell short but had his chances. A repeat of first section saw us lose another 7 on the trot, it was looking pretty dismal. A repeat of the last couple of games from Stuart and Steve meant that we had another repeat 3-8 to worcs. At this point all you could hear were the worcs boys cheering their team on. There was little noise from the bucks 'A' at all.
Half way and we were 16-6 down and it seemed all over but then something happened, the team woke up, stood tall and started to battle in the way bucks do only too often. Rattling off 7 on the trot with wins coming from Dane, Jimmy ( first for 'A's ), Sean, Terry, John H, Paul A and Dan Morgan. With further wins coming from Steve and Stuart, both on 3 out of 3 and a minor glitch on the 3rd section coming from Liam and Tony H meant we won the third section 9-2. Fantastic stuff from the bucks with so many people on 0 from 2 the pressure was definately on them and fair play, they clenched their butt cheeks and got a result. This then changed teh scoreline to 15-18 to worcs, who were not so easy to hear now.

We started to realise that we could win this match after such a terrible start. Dane and Jimmy got off to a bad start each losing their final game leaving Jimmy with a 1 from 4 and dane a respectable 2 from 4 in their debuts, well done chaps. Sean Gourley and Terry Davidson both won their last games leaving them both with 2 outta 4. Man of the match from last game John Hardaker lost his final game giving him 1/4 for the day, a disappointing day for John but im sure he will come back to his best next match. Paul Anderson then went on to win his last game giving him 2/4 also, which was great considering he lost his first 2, 1 to a dish. Its easy sometimes to drop your shoulders after losing first 2 so well done Paul for a great comeback.
This left the score at 18-21 to worcs, no room for any more mistakes.... With Dan and Liam to go on we were very hopeful but alas both lost giving worcs the magic 23 for the win. Both having an uncharacteristic 1/4 but i know that wont happen very often, just a bad day from 2 of our top players.

The last 3 games went to the mighty Bucks with wins from Tony haggarty(1/4), Stuart Douglas and Steve Appleby both with an amazing 4/4 to make the final score 21-23. An absolutely fantastic fightback from the bucks only just missing out on the win. We should hold our heads high and be proud of what we did on sunday considering the nightmare start we had. We have had a lot of bad luck this season and if we can just sort out our start then im sure we will be a formidable side thats hard to beat. Worcs were definately worried and sweating a little as we made our fight back but take nothing away from them, they stuck to it and managed to stumble accross the line. Well done worcs, we look forward to the return leg. Personally i think we should be happy about the way the team is forming, a few changes, new players, new captains and we are still taking top teams to the wire, so well done Bucks 'A' keep it up and im know we will get there in the end. A massive well done to the Bunnies also for continuing their unbeaten run with a 27-17 win over the worcs ladies. Finally commiserations to Bucks 'B' who went down 28-18 ( i think lol )....... Up The Bucks

Well played Steve MOTM
