Bucks Bunnies v Oxfordshire Ladies

The match against Oxford Ladies was always going to be critical, with Bucks Bunnies looking to stamp their authority on Region 5 for the fourth year in succession. Oxford are a quality side and are without doubt, the Bunnies main rivals for the Region 5 championship.

Following a massive ?show me the Bunny,? Lisa Reynolds and Victoria Griffith kicked off against two of Oxford?s England trialists, quickly taking the Bunnies 2-0 up. With Sarah Wilkins and Claire McEwan also taking out recent trialists, the Bunnies roared into an 8-0 lead. Emma Cunningham closed out the first session in a hard fought tactical battle, Bunnies 9 - Oxford 2.

The second set started much the same as the first with Rowdie and Toastie taking the Bunnies 2-0 up. Then Oxford woke up a little and won the next 3 frames, leading to Toastie spreading vicious reports that Oxford were winning the session. Ruth Lowe immediately put a stop to that, with a storming long rail pot on her last colour before finishing off her opponent. Wins followed from Harri Shaw, Claire McEwan, Kerry Griffiths and Emma Cunningham, winning the session 7-4, Bunnies 16, Oxford 6.

The hot weather started to tell and the Bunnies started to flag. Frames were exchanged with Oxford all the way down the third session, the Bunnies edging it 6-5. Stacey McConnell secured the draw, followed by Emma Cunningham taking out the match win for the Bunnies.

Frames from Lisa and Vick saw Oxford reply with the next 4 legs to lead the final session 4-2. Good wins from Harri Shaw, Kerry Griffiths and Claire McEwan left the session poised at 5-5. A great frame between ex-England Hazel Dabrowski and ex-World Champ Emma Cunningham saw Hazel gain control at the end, with Emma snookered and in trouble. But the Wookie is total class, stepping up to swerve the white round her opponent?s ball, cutting her own ball back towards the pocket where it hung. The white then came back across, clipping the edge of the colour to nudge it in, leaving Emma nicely on the black. Fooken showoff !!

Yet another 4/4 for the Wookie sees her topping the rankings on 16/16. 4/4's also for Harri Shaw (POM) and Lisa Reynolds. Claire McEwan and Victoria Griffith both scored 3/4.

Brilliant day all round ? Toastie managed not to offend anyone all day, Rowdie didn?t ask once what colour she was on, nor did she forget when she had two shots, Wilki managed to avoid the white that John Hardaker viciously sent towards her head (best you get retained John - no wild card from the Manager next year) and a convincing 28-16 win against our nearest rivals, extending the Bunny lead at the top of the table to 26 points. Congratulations to both the men?s teams on making it a clean sweep - great results all round.
