Warks Men's 'B' versus Bucks Men's 'B' - Match report

Bucks travelled to an away game for only the second time this season in a game against Warwickshire at probably the worst Riley?s club I?ve even been to. Although plenty of them, the tables were of a poor standard. The men?s matches were delayed by some considerable time as Warwickshire, at first, were unable to field a team.

After some confusion and tolerance from the Bucks captains, the matches racked up an hour late with players still ?en route? to make up a full squad for the Warks B team.

The B team line-up was Mike Chappell, Chris Willoughby, Peter Lee, Dean Mills, Terry Steventon, Daren White, Dan Wilkins, Tony Haggarty, David Larner, Chris Cox and Jason Williams. There were no subs.

In a very close first session Bucks just edged it 6-5. Due to players arriving late for Warks the captains agreed that as long as they arrive before the end of the session, they can play. They did, but it didn?t matter because the late players lost anyway. Mike Chappell, Chris Willoughby, Daren White, Dan Wilkins, David Larner and Jason Williams recorded the wins to give Bucks an early lead.

In the second session, Warks hit back to edge it themselves 6-5 and put the match all square at 11-11 at the half way stage. Peter Lee, Dean Mills, Mike Chappell, Chris Cox and Tony Haggarty took wins for Bucks. Another close match which has been a pattern recently. Bucks needed a repeat of a good third session to again take pressure off for the forth.

No mid session break due to the late start, Dean Mills and Mike Chappell immediately put Bucks 2 frames ahead and it looked like at one stage Bucks could pull away. But Warks hit back themselves with 3 frames to retake the lead. In a frame for frame exchange, Terry Steventon, David Larner and Dan Wilkins came up with wins, but the session was lost 6-5 and 16-17 to Warks overall.

Again, Bucks took the first 2 frames in the final session to take the lead, but in a bizarre repeat of the third session, Warks again took the next 3 frames to edge in front themselves. With Warks 20-18 up, it was always going to be a tense final few frames. Mike Chappell, Daren White and Dan Wilkins took 3 frames to make the score 21-21 with David Larner and Tony Haggarty to play. In a fudging game, David Larner lost so all eyes were on Tony?s game. A great double put Tony in a winning position and he didn?t disappoint to take the frame and draw the match 22-22.

Mike Chappell earned a deserved POM award with a perfect 4/4, with Dan Wilkins Wilkins recording 3/4 for the second match in a row. Another good overall team performance with everyone recording wins and only 3 players on less thn 50%..

A ?non-losing? match for the Bucks with the Bunnies winning of course, and the A?s also in a close 22-22 draw. Not a bad away performance overall.
