Worcs Mens 'B' Versus Bucks Mens 'B' ~ Match Report

It?s difficult to think of any positives from a match in which the Bucks B?s were beaten so convincingly not only on the tables but in team spirit too. I can?t think of another county game I?ve been involved in where the atmosphere was any worse, and this reflected in individual performances on the tables. One player turned up that drunk he had to be helped up the steps to the club in the centre of Worcester, and another completely lost his head halfway through the match. Very few people were watching the games, preferring the practice tables or video machines than supporting teammates. All this in front of 3 new players who were drafted in to make up the numbers. I suppose that the one positive we can take from this is our ability to draft in a good standard of player when needed. Thanks to the squad management team for this.

So on to the match itself. The slightly new look B team line-up was Paul Anderson, Chris Lee, Scott Rutter, Franco Marsala, Bradley Dean, Danny Johnson, John Clavey, Tony Haggarty, David Larner, Jon Loveday and Neil Turnbull with Pete Hallett named as sub.

With Chris Lee taking one of the first 2 frames for Bucks, it wasn?t long before Worcestershire stamped their authority on this match, quickly establishing a 4-1 lead and finally taking the first session 7-4. Only Chris Lee, Tony Haggarty, Jon Loveday and a good first win for debutant Danny Johnson putting up any resistance for Bucks.

The second session was even worse as the regions league leaders smelt the blood of an easy kill. 8-3 for the session and 15-7 overall. Just Bradley Dean, David Larner and John Clavey taking wins for Bucks.

It was a similar story in the 3rd session as Worcs took it 8-3 and for the first time in a good many years, a Bucks team had lost the match before the 4th session had even started. Worcs were 23-8 up at one point with only Chris Lee taking a win in the session, but John Clavey and Jon Loveday won the last 2 frames of the session to pull it back to 23-10 and get us into double figures at least.

The 4th session was a formality with the match effectively over, but it proved to be Bucks best one of the day ?only? losing it 6-5 with wins for Scott Rutter, Neil Turnbull, Danny Johnson, John Clavey and David Larner. Final score 29-15.

Only John Clavey achieved more than 50% on the day and picked up a deserved player of the match with 3/4. Four players finished on 2/4 wins - Chris Lee, David Larner, Jon Loveday and a very creditable 50% from Danny Johnson on his debut - which just goes to show how many players were off their game today.

Well done to the Bunnies for keeping Buckinghamshire pool on the map with another win 27-17, and commiserations to the A?s going down 26-18 after they also had a disappointing start.

Let?s put this one behind us, commit it to the history books and move on.

Oxforshire away next. If we can?t be up for that one, it?s time to pack it in.
