Oxon Mens 'B' Versus Bucks Mens 'B' ~ Match Report
Posted by bullet.gif Barlow on October 30 2009
With the disappointment of last match, both on and off the table, behind them and the runners-up spot in the region seemingly out of reach it was a match of pure pride and passion for Bucks B?s lining up against arch rivals Oxfordshire.

The B?s had a more familiar line up with Chris Lee, Scott Rutter, Chris Willoughby, Terry Steventon, Liam Harty, David Larner, John Clavey, Tony Haggarty, Jon Loveday, John Hardaker and Paul Anderson with Franco Marsala and Peter Hallett named as subs.

It looked like it was going to be a long hard day for Bucks at Oxfordshire?s home venue - a garage in the arse end of Witney. Only Chris Lee could find a win in the first 6 frames. 5-1 down, but wins from John Clavey, Tony Haggarty, Jon Loveday and Paul Anderson kept Bucks within touching distance. 6-5 to Oxon for the first session.

The second session was a similar story with Oxon taking 3 out of the first 4 frames, but Bucks held strong and eventually tied the match at 11-11 with a 6-5 session win. Chris Willoughby, Chris Lee, Jon Loveday, John Hardaker, Tony Haggarty and John Clavey taking frames.

In one of the closest matches for some time, Bucks just managed to edge the 3rd session 6-5 to take a lead in the match for the first time at 17-16. Scott Rutter, Chris Willoughby, David Larner, Jon Loveday, John Clavey and John Hardaker recording wins.

It was all set up for a close tense 4th session with predictions of the match going to a deciding frame. How wrong we were as Bucks found another gear. Noise levels increased with Bucks taking the session 8-3 and the match 25-19 overall. Wins from Scott Rutter, Franco Marsala, Liam Harty, Paul Anderson, Chris Lee, John Clavey, John Hardaker, and Jon Loveday certainly silenced any thoughts Oxon had of taking anything from the match.

For the forth time this season, two players finished the day on 4/4, the consistent John Clavey and a return of form for Jon Loveday, so the POM could have gone either way. Jon Loveday got the nod from the opposition captain. C?mon John (Clavey), you?ve had 3 already this season...

Congratulations to the Bunnies with a 32-12 stuffing against the next best team in the region... Commiserations to the A?s though, going down 26-18.

A quick look at the league table shows the B?s 4th in the region with a game in hand over third place Gloucestershire and second place Northants. With a 48 point deficit to overcome to grab second spot and a place at Yarmouth, it a tall order, but not impossible! Northants last match is against leaders Worcestershire. The B?s entertain second from bottom Warwickshire before that long journey to bottom side Herefordshire. With 2 good wins for Bucks and a mauling for Northants... stranger things have happened?!?!?

Up the Bucks. The B?s are back!
