Gloucs Mens B v Bucks Mens B ~ Match Report
Posted by bullet.gif Barlow on March 10 2010
Bucks B?s started a highly anticipated season at Gloucestershire?s Double D?s in Tewkesbury. I said last season it has to win the award for the shittiest venue in the region, and this season it will probably win the award again. The B?s, fresh from qualifying for Great Yarmouth, were looking forward to repeating that success. The standard has been set and it?s important to continue the good form and improvement to qualify again.

Even though the Bucks teams were there in plenty of time, the men?s matches were delayed almost an hour while the home side sorted out their teams.

Anyway, on to the match itself. With 3 trialists qualifying for the squad and new players coming back into the A?s, the B?s looked a strong line-up. Chris Lee, Scott Rutter, Kenny Riddell, John Hardaker, Dane Tuttlebee, Franco Marsala, John Clavey, Tony Haggarty, Chris Cox, Daren White and Dan Wilkins made the starting line-up with David Larner, Nick Bowden, John Kennedy and Dave Minster (there for the seniors game) were named as subs.

The B?s got off to a poor start quickly going 3 nil down, John Hardaker stopped the rot, but only John Clavey and Chris Cox could add to the wins in the first session and the B?s found themselves 8-3 down.

In the second session it was a similar story. Kenny Riddell won his first frame for Bucks, but again, Gloucs put a string of wins together and eventually won the session 7-4 to take the match 15-7 overall.

It was going to be an uphill struggle to take anything out of this game and controversially, 4 players who I thought were off their game were replaced at the half way interval. Unfortunately the tactic didn?t work and Bucks again went down 7-4 in the 3rd session to put the overall score at an unassailable 22-11 to Gloucs. Only John Hardaker, Kenny Riddell, Dave Minster and Chris Cox finding wins.

Gloucs quickly took the match in the 4th session, but at least Bucks made a fight of it to give a bit of respectability to the final score, taking the session 6-5. Kenny Riddell, John Hardaker, Chris Lee, John Clavey, Chris Cox and Tony Haggarty chalking up much needed wins. Final score Gloucs B?s 27, Bucks B?s 17.

John Hardaker was a very deserved player of the match, although Chris Cox, John Clavey and a great debut for Kenny Riddell all finished on 3/4. With 4 players on 3/4 and still losing 27-17, it just goes to show how many players were off their game in this match.

Congratulations to the Bunnies, destroying their opponents yet again 35-9 under extremely poor playing conditions. It?s going to be another fantastic season for them.

Talking of fantastic seasons, the A?s look to be one of the strongest sides Bucks have had since the region winning team of 2001. From 7-0 down they came back to win 29-15. Superb performance and great team spirit throughout.

A very disappointing day for the B?s, but overall with the A team result, the Bunnies result and the strength of the squad with the new additions, hopefully it is a blip in the season we can quickly put right.

Arch rivals Northants next game. It?s too early in the season to think of it as a must win, but one thing?s for sure, we must do better.
